Good health is 'a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing', and the research we do at Heriot-Watt strives to improve the health of all, from healthy homes to a healthy planet. Importantly, 2020-2030 has been announced as the World Health Organisation Decade of Healthy Ageing – a research area where we have a particularly broad strength and capacity.
In 2019, we celebrated and shared our health-related research, spanning a breadth of highly topical inter-connected activities including, for example, biological engineering, biophysics, computer science, mathematical biology, psychology, environmental health, cancer biology, neuroscience, rehabilitation technologies and the design of age-friendly cities and communities.
From family events, to public talks and conversations, there were plenty of opportunities to discuss our current and future research aimed at helping to ensure a healthy and happy planet and population.
In December 2018, we put out a call to schools across Scotland to help us design a healthy home, full of gadgets and tools to make your family healthier, and improve the health of the planet we live on. The response was inspiring and highly imaginative. For full details check out our Heriot's Healthy Home page.
