Team ESTEEM

Transcript
We in Team ESTEEM believe that we are the architects of the future which is why we design and build a smart home and contribute to developing sustainable housing for present and future generations. We are the finalists of Solar Decathlon Middle East challenge - SDME 2021 - a competition inviting students from all over the globe to design and build smart homes of the future.
This is the first time the competition has been directly linked with the World Expo. Dubai 2020 is arguably one of the largest events of the year and will showcase innovation and technologies that haven't been showcased the public before. With 180 countries, each with their own pavilion, millions of visitors are expected to visit the site over a period of six months. Our journey as Team ESTEEM began two years ago with a small group of enthusiastic students ready to take up the challenge to change the housing industry. Currently we have over a hundred members from different disciplines and different countries. Our house is a product of collaboration between 30 companies and supporters and bright students well underway to becoming young professionals. What makes our project so unique is the comprehensive thinking we've given to sustainability. As a global team we've been inspired by international smart solutions and even natural materials, for example our Scottish timber in our cross
laminated timber panels and even hemp insulation. We've even gone as far as to have a 3D printed concrete tower which will
showcase our optimization and also reduction in concrete usage and I could keep going on about smart solutions, however this is all thanks to Heriot-Watt's best resources and researching facilities and the researchers on campus. 2020 has been a curveball of a year and through to our moral pride and where and how we live we understand the social impact of our project. Throughout 2020 we have actually increased our social reach by engaging with outreach campaigns including construction and innovation. Our campaign 'Destination Dubai' aims to promote mental health awareness by walking cycling or running. Together with class of your own we have actually taught children about sustainable housing and soon we will be launching the podcast named Vision in which we hope to increase our low carbon message. We're working towards building a new future where sustainability is driven by innovation and collaboration. Join us on our journey developing sustainable housing and smart home futures. Thank you very much.
