Our vision for computer science is one that champions its fundamental importance to continued advances in all areas of science, while stressing the role of foundational research in enabling a steady stream of step-changes in potential for future applications. Heriot-Watt University is a partner in the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA).
School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS)
Computer science within MACS covers two main areas,
- fundamental research into logics and languages supporting safe, efficient and ultra-high performance systems of the future, and
- research and development of computational intelligence in a broad range of areas, spanning speech and dialogue interaction, autonomous robotics, bio and medical informatics, and advanced data analytics

Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA)
Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) was launched in 2008 and now comprises a partnership between 13 universities. SICSA goals are to improve the quality of research in informatics and computer science across universities in Scotland, to promote the transfer of research results to benefit companies and the public sector in Scotland and to create a university community that represents all aspects of Scottish Informatics and Computer Science.
