Student life at Heriot-Watt

We pride ourselves on being an international university and international students make up about one third of our student population.

Heriot-Watt University is a very popular study destination for students from Norway; we welcome around 40 Norwegian students every year.

Student societies

Heriot-Watt students are able to join in with over 50 student societies through which they can participate in different activities from academic societies through sports and interest groups such as drama and music among other things.

We have an active Norwegian student association in Edinburgh called NORSA who you can follow on Facebook.

Entry requirements

These entry requirements are intended as a guide only. Please contact us or the School's admissions tutor to find out the actual requirements for the programme you want to study.

Undergraduates

  • For most programmes you need to have obtained 4 in your Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skole (Upper Secondary Leaving Certificate). If you have 3 in English, we would normally waive the English language requirement.
  • Advanced entry may be possible, for instance if you would like to transfer from a Norwegian university or college to Heriot-Watt. It may be possible to transfer directly into the Year 4 of your chosen programme.

Postgraduates

  • For most of our Masters level programmes we require a good first degree in a relevant subject.

English language requirements

Please refer to the table of school level English language grades for each country.

If you do not meet our English language requirements, you can apply to one of our academic English programmes, which are specifically designed to prepare you with the language and study skills needed for academic study.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are listed alongside each programme in the online prospectuses.

Tuition fees are higher for international students. If you are unsure what your residency status is, you can complete a fee status enquiry form, which allows us to assess whether you have a relevant connection to the UK that might positively influence your fee status:
