A warm welcome to all new students from Information Services.
The information on this page will direct you to key areas on our website so that you can get yourself set up and organised ready to start your studies. You will also receive an introduction to Library and IT resources and services, find out when yours is scheduled from your enrolment and induction timetable (Scotland). Information for students on other campuses will be available locally.

Once you have completed the enrolment process you will be issued with a confirmation letter which provides your HWU username and password. Allow up to 24 hours after enrolling for your account to be activated. Change your password to something you will remember using Password Change.

You have access to a wealth of information whilst at University. As well as our print materials our subscriptions provide access to 75,000 eBooks, 45,000 eJournals and 280 bibliographic databases. You can access our materials from Find Resources, plus:
Borrow from the Library
Your student ID card is also your library card and you can borrow from the library the day after you have enrolled. The barcode number is your library number. Use this to login to your library account, renew items and request (reserve) items out on loan.
There are lots of great spaces to study in our campus Libraries. Last year we received over 750,000 visits! You will find silent and group study areas with all the facilities you need to study effectively. The Edinburgh Campus Library also has a library cafe where you can take a break and grab a bite to eat. Since September 2016, 200 additional student spaces have been available in our Learning Commons, providing state-of-the-art digital learning and study facilities.

Support for your studies
We provide you with support to help you with the transition to University and develop your information, IT and study skills; helping you to succeed with your studies and develop graduate attributes requested by employers.
Information Services provides a Power Hours programme which delivers workshops on over 50 topics - face-to-face or online, with supporting materials in Vision (the VLE).
You also have access to a Skills for Success self study course in Vision which contains information, Academic IT and study skills learning materials which you can refer to throughout your studies and comprehensive guides are available to introduce you to the key resources in a subject area and provide detailed information on using specific services. Further support is available from the Effective Learning Service.
