Heriot-Watt is the first university in Scotland to offer a nationally recognised coaching qualification to aid students interested in strength and conditioning as a career.

The University today (Apr 24) announced it will embed a UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) Level 3 Trainer qualification into its third-year Sport and Exercise Science degree programme from September.

The UKSCA Trainer qualification is designed for strength and conditioning coaches, sports coaches, fitness instructors, students studying strength and conditioning, and sport science related disciplines and therapists to safely prescribe and coach elements of strength and conditioning-related training.

By embedding the prestigious UK Strength and Conditioning Association Level 3 Trainer qualification into our Sport and Exercise Science degree programme, we are empowering our students with essential industry-relevant skills and knowledge crucial for their careers.

This collaboration not only underscores the university's dedication to providing students with cutting-edge opportunities but also reinforces the importance of industry-aligned skills.

“By empowering students with essential strength and conditioning expertise, we're not only shaping future leaders but also elevating the standard of coaching excellence in Scotland's sporting community."
