Heriot-Watt University's School of Textiles and Design are opening its virtual doors to the public today, Friday, 28 May, as students showcase their 2021 degree show collections.
The virtual show includes a 3D interactive space in addition to student profile pages, to interact with student work. The event welcomes guests to view students' projects showcased in a variety of individual exhibitions which incorporate videos, slide shows and static imagery. A 3D gallery space for walkthrough viewing is so lifelike!
This year's theme is “re-imagine” based on how the students have reimagined their way of working through the pandemic, which as you can imagine, has been extremely challenging. The students from our Galashiels and Dubai campuses have needed to re-define how they have worked based on little to no access to the campus and the facilities due to restrictions utilised to keep everyone safe.
They have risen to the challenge of re-structuring the way in which they work, how they work and where they work – re-inventing their methodology in order to develop their final projects.
Professor Fiona Waldron, Head of School, said: “We are coming to the end of another academic year for our Undergraduate students, and it has most certainly been a challenging one for us all. I am immensely proud of the achievements of all our students in the UK and in Dubai and of the quality, diversity, and professionalism displayed in their final work.
“The annual Degree Showcase is a wonderful chance to celebrate the work of our students' who have shown remarkable ingenuity and adaptability in completing their projects in a particularly challenging environment for creative practice based subjects.
"As well as celebrating our student's work, we hope the virtual showcase will encourage people who are considering a degree in design to join us at our Galashiels or Dubai Campuses.”
