Heriot-Watt and spirits giant Diageo have announced 'The Diageo Spirit of STEM scholarship', established to support female students planning to study in Scotland.

The scholarships will be awarded to two female candidates, one studying the BSc Brewing and Distilling and another MEng/BEng Mechanical Engineering courses (including programme variations and Scottish campuses only).

Each year, the students will be awarded a scholarship to support their living/educational costs whilst studying at Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh campus. The scholarships will see additional support through internship opportunities within Diageo and mentorship.

The aim of these scholarships is to encourage female students to take up careers in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The spirits company aims to run the scholarship program for the next three years.

Building Future Workforce

Chief human resources officer at Diageo, Mairéad Nayager, said, “We aim to be the best employer for women in the UK and are actively working to ensure we have a strong pipeline of female talent, across the broad variety of roles in our business.”
