Celebration Week in the UK saw us celebrate our inaugural UK Values Champions on 4th and 5th June at Hermiston House.

We were delighted to recognise colleagues from all UK campuses at these events. Our Dubai and Malaysia campuses will be celebrating Values Champions at local events next week. These events recognise fantastic examples of individuals and teams living our refreshed values globally.

We received an incredible 88 nominations, recognising 333 colleagues from across all campuses. Examples submitted included globally connected teams as well as cross-campus nominations, demonstrating a real breadth in the values-led approach our colleagues are embodying.

The Principal and Professor Gill Hogg spoke on both days about their pride in our colleagues and the importance of celebrating success and contribution regularly. Gill said of our Champions: “It was fantastic to see so many of our new Values Champions at the Celebration event and to read their inspirational stories. Being a values led organisation is at the heart of Strategy 2025 and the values champions are excellent examples of colleagues who are building our flourishing community. They inspire us all.”

At the team event on 5th June, Dr Alicia Greated and Professor Fiona Waldron discussed the importance of collaboration across teams, Schools and services and campuses. Alicia said: “Working together, is how we achieve all our values. Every action you, or I, do has impact on someone around us and we all have the power to help someone feel positive, to support them, or to inspire them be creative and ambitious. The Global Values Awards celebrated many brilliant examples of how Heriot-Watt individuals and teams are reaching out to our communities to create a sense of belonging and showed how we are collaborating and inspiring others to make a positive difference.”

Going forward, we will be recognising Values Champions throughout the year. Further information on how you can submit your examples of the values in action will be communicated in due course.
