MAA gives talk to Charterhouse Malaysia 2023

On 2 November 2023, Charterhouse Malaysia invited our Provost and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, to talk about “Purpose-Driven Education.” The event welcomed around 100 Charterhouse students, along with their parents, teachers, and staff.

Charterhouse Malaysia is an esteemed secondary education institution with an extensive history of providing high-quality British Education. They are dedicated to providing their students with the best learning resources and opportunities. With a vision statement aptly dubbed “Future Ready – Education for a New Reality,” Charterhouse believes in constantly innovating the bounds of education to produce well-rounded and adaptable individuals in an ever-changing future.

This talk was initiated by Richard Davidson, the Headteacher of Charterhouse Malaysia, to develop their students to discover their purpose. Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) fully believes in driving holistic education, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on character development. Purpose-driven education empowers our students to become future-ready graduates who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and values to make a positive impact on the world.

Professor Mushtak highlighted the importance of finding a balance in the name of Purpose-driven education, “When you have both success for yourself and a positive impact on others, then and only then, you’ll flourish and be happier. That is the meaning of Purpose-Driven Education.”

He also touched on the importance of appreciating one’s peers and educators who serve as the support pillar for one’s growth and success, “As people, it is easy and natural for us to take things for granted. I believe that it is crucial that we learn how to properly thank and recognise the people that help us continue our path.”

Under the EmPOWER Programme, students are guided in developing leadership skills that enable them to create a positive impact in the world. HWUM sincerely thanks Charterhouse Malaysia for the invitation and the opportunity to share this vision in equipping the students with high-quality and holistic education.
