Deflected in opposite directions

Super positions

Quantum Mechanics predicts that objects can be in two states or locations at the same time; Schrödinger’s famous cat is simultaneously dead and alive. Yet such superpositions are very hard to generate for macroscopic objects. Researchers in IPaQS at Heriot- Watt University devise a scheme to prepare a small membrane in a state where it is deflected in one and the opposite direction at the same time. Observing this state would help to clarify that Quantum Mechanics also applies to macroscopic objects.
