Photonics and Quantum Sciences presents us with the exciting and ongoing challenge of attempting to understand the physical world around us and of applying this knowledge to enable future technological advances. Reflecting this challenge, our taught masters programmes and research doctorates allow our students to develop their skills in a world class institute.
Doctoral research takes one of two forms. Traditional PhD students spend their time as part of one of our research groups in their chosen topic. Alternatively, reflecting our close links with industry, Heriot-Watt leads the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Photonics which places students in a commercial or industrial environment for the majority of their research.
