Professor Jiju Antony

Professor of Quality Management

PhD, MEngSc, B.E.

Professor Jiju Antony is a Professor of Quality Management and a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He is an Academician of the International Academy for Quality, the first person ever elected to the Academy from Scotland. Professor Antony has authored over 400 journal, conference and white papers and 11 text books of which 6  are related to Lean Six Sigma.

He has published over 250 papers on Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma topics and is considered to be one of the highest in the world for the number of Six Sigma publications. He has an h-index of 83 according to Google Scholar with total citations exceeding 25000. His areas of research specialism include: Lean and Six Sigma topics related to any sector, Operational Excellence, Industry 4.0, Quality 4.0, Quality Management, Leadership for Continuous Improvement and quality engineering in particular Design of Experiments for process optimization.

He currently supervises a number of PhD students on Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement and Quality Management related topics and is keen to supervise DBA students who have a vested interest to research on the above topics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (UK), Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), Fellow of the Institute of Operations Management (FIOM), Fellow of the American Society of Quality (FASQ), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Fellow of the Institute of the Six Sigma Professionals (ISSP).

1993-1996 – PhD in quality engineering (University of Portsmouth, England, UK)

1990-1992 – MEngSc in Quality and Reliability Engineering (University College Galway, Ireland, Ireland)

1984-1988 – B.E. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Kerala, India)

Background

2007-2014 – Design, Manufacture and Engineering management Department – University of Strathclyde – Professor of Quality Management. I was primarily involved in the development of a new MSc program in Lean Six Sigma and delivered CPD courses on various topics related to Lean, Six Sigma and quality engineering for more than 80 companies in the UK. My primary research interests were on the applications of LSS in the Public Sector and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). 

2014-present – School of Social Sciences – Heriot-Watt University - Professor of Quality Management. I teach quality management and fundamentals of LSS to post graduate students at HW University. My current research interests include: Why Six Sigma projects fail in organizations?; What does the future hold for quality professionals and what skills are required for them to be ready for adoption of Quality 4.0? Integration of LSS with Industry 4.0; and LSS in Higher Education.

  • 2020 November, Won the outstanding contribution to Quality Management practice award from the leading quality professional body CQI, UK 
  • 2020 April,  Appointed as an Academician to the International Academy for Quality (IAQ), the first person ever elected to the Academy from Scotland and fourth from the UK.
  • Listed among the top 2% of scientists in the World in the recent publication put together by Scientists at Stanford University, USA.
