Dr Laura Jackman

Assistant Professor

Laura Jackman is an Assistant Professor in Strategy and Enterprise at Edinburgh Business School and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Laura teaches on Entrepreneurship courses for the MBA and MSc both on-campus and online and is Course Leader for the Entrepreneurial Venturing course. Laura is also undergraduate Programme Director for International Business with Year Abroad and teaches on multiple undergraduate enterprise courses including Business Venturing, Enterprise and its Global Context and Enterprise, Concepts and Issues.

Laura’s research interests are around enterprise management and the socio-economic environment for enterprise with a particular interest in marginalised groups. Current research projects explore self-employment, poverty and the welfare system. Previous research has focussed on female entrepreneurship, specifically in terms of parenthood and motivations. Laura regularly reviews for several journals on entrepreneurship and small businesses as well as regularly submitting her own research for review in addition to presenting her work at conferences. She has guest-edited with Professor Galloway and other colleagues for a Special Issue of the International Journal of Entrepreneurial behaviour and Research on the Intersectionality of Entrepreneurship. Laura has also written several teaching case studies as well frequently contributing to the EBS blog and wider entrepreneurship publications including websites and magazines.

Background

Laura’s academic background is in teaching a range of business management subjects, including entrepreneurship, business venturing, and innovation and creativity across several institutions. Prior to academia Laura had a diverse career across different sectors, both in large and small companies in the private sector and voluntary sector.
