My main research area is monetary policy, in particular how monetary policy decisions are taken and why. For much of my career that was focused on the UK, but I have also worked on France and Italy. In the last few years I have been engaged in a major project of classification of monetary policy frameworks.

Background

I was lecturer, then senior lecturer and finally reader at the University of St Andrews, from 1976 to 2005 (too long for the individual and for the institution).
