Olayinka Lawal joined Heriot-Watt University as a PhD student in September 2020 at the Edinburgh campus, and she is supervised by Dr. Edward Jones and Dr. Jia Lu. Her research involves investigating the impact of non-financial information on investment decisions and the market value of firms. In particular, the research focusses on examining how ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) considerations and investments by firms impact the stock market valuation of the firms.
Background
Prior to joining Heriot-Watt University, Olayinka’s career started in the banking industry where she worked for 6 years in business development and client services/customer experience roles at Ecobank Nigeria Plc and Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Ltd. She worked at the Benefits Directorate with the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) as part of the UK Civil Service Fast Stream Summer Diversity Internship Program (SDIP). She also served as a Finance Specialist with a data analytics firm in Nigeria for 4 years. Olayinka holds an MBA degree from Grenoble Ecole de Management, France (London Campus) and is a Chartered Accountant with the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). She also holds a B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry.
