About

Dr Maheen Hasib is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot Watt University, Dubai Campus. Dr. Maheen completed her undergraduate and PhD in the field of Telecommunications from Queen Mary, University of London. Her  specialization includes Statistical Modelling, Categorical Data Analysis, Statistical Machine Learning, Statistical Computing, Data Analytics, Educational Data Mining, Inference and Simulation. She is a member of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Association of Data Scientist (ADaSci). She is an ambassador for Women in Data Science (WIDs).

Her Teaching areas includes Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, Statistical Models, Data Analytics, Calculus, Python, Research Methods, Machine Learning, Statistical Computing, Statistical Inference, Sampling Techniques and Survey Methods, Software Engineering, Generalized Linear Modelling and Application of Statistical and Linear Algebra techniques for data compression.

Biography

During her PhD, she also worked with the Telecoms sector in the civil service. She then went on to work with Liquid Business Solutions. Here, she gained practical and hands-on experience in the deployment, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of VoIP networks. From there, the time she spent in Bahrain was very fruitful as she had an opportunity to deliver professional training courses on VoIP communications and networking topics. This helped her realize her passion for Education and launched her on a journey towards professional qualifications in Education. She is a Fellow of the Advanced HE (Higher Education).

While back in the UK, she worked in colleges to gain experience on the challenges associated with academia and went on to qualify with a Graduate Teacher Program certification from University of Hertfordshire. She was also a co-founder of the company, Dataletix, based in the UK. Here, she consulted on projects in Learning and Behavioral Analytics. She was also responsible for E-learning Data Extraction for xAPI and SCORM data analytics.

Prior to joining Heriot Watt University, she was an Assistant Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai, teaching courses in Probability and Statistics, Data Analytics, Calculus etc. She currently teaches Linear Algebra, Statistical Models A and B. She is also supervising MSc students in Artificial Intelligence.
