Dr Rabee Rustum

Dr Rabee's main responsibilities are to lead the development of a learning and teaching culture within the civil engineering department and to support the DoLT and DoQ in addressing all learning and teaching quality issues including APMRs, quality audits, accreditation visits and student surveys, and where required develop quality enhancement plans.
Dr Rabee Rustum is a civil and environmental engineer specialising in hydro-informatics with experience in water and wastewater related projects. He joined Heriot-Watt University, Dubai in February 2012.
Dr Rustum graduated with a BSc degree from Damascus University, Syria in 2001. After graduation, he worked as an environmental engineer for the Water Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Irrigation, Syria. In 2002, he received a postgraduate diploma in civil and environmental engineering from Damascus University, Syria; and in 2003 he obtained a masters degree in environmental risk management from the University of Poitiers, France.
Dr Rustum started his research career in 2005 and in June 2009 he obtained his PhD in civil and environmental engineering from Heriot-Watt University, UK; Thesis title: Modelling activated sludge wastewater treatment plants using artificial intelligence techniques (fuzzy logic and neural networks).
From June 2008, he worked as a water and wastewater hydraulic modeller for Mouchel Group, Stirling office, in Scotland. In September 2009, he joined King Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia as Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering before joining the water research group at the Heriot-Watt University, Dubai.
In November 2015, Dr Rustum obtained his postgraduate certificate in academic practice. In August 2018 he was promoted to Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
