About

Dr Oumer is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai. He teaches BEng & MEng Mechanical Engineering, and BEng Chemical Engineering students.

Biography

Dr Oumer received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia. His MSc and BSc degrees are also in Mechanical Engineering. Before joining Heriot-Watt University, he served 10 years as an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in the College of Engineering, at the University of Malaysia Pahang.

He has many years of teaching experience in higher education in the areas of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and numerical methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Moreover, he has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and PhD) research theses. Before shifting to academia, he worked in various manufacturing and consultant industries for more than seven years.

Professional Memberships

  • Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE) and Chartered Engineer, Engineering Council UK, from 2015 - to date.
  • Graduate Engineer,  Board of Engineers in Malaysia, form 2019-2022 
  • Regular Member of the International Association of Engineers from 2016 to date.
Research

Dr Oumer is actively participating in various research projects. His research interests include:

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD);
  • Modelling and experimental study of  thermo-fluid problems;
  • Heat transfer enhancement using nanofluids and finned heat exchangers;
  • Fluidized bed combustion;
  • Flow-induced orientation of fibres in fibre-reinforced composites.
