Deputy Principal's Award

No award for academic year 2019/20

The impact of COVID-19 resulted in the University changing its assessment grading scheme for Year 1 and Year 2 students.  As a consequence, the University has decided, in the interests of fairness to all students, that the Deputy Principal's Awards will not be made this year.

The awards will be reintroduced from academic year 2020/21.

Criteria for the Deputy Principal’s Award 

This award is a student award for academic excellence and is an annual award made to individual students who meet the following criteria:

  • Full-time undergraduate students studying on campus at any one of our locations. Note: the student must be taking 8 courses totalling 120 credits and have begun their degree programme at a September intake.
  • Attain 6 Grade As with passes at Grade D or higher in the other courses, at the first sitting.
  • Students with any reassessments, course failures, or grade Es in the year are automatically disqualified from the award.
  • The rules will be adjusted for students with one semester’s absence for medical or personal reasons.

Award notifications

Any student meeting the criteria will receive a letter from Professor John Sawkins, Deputy Principal (Learning and Teaching) after the summer diet of examinations advising them of the award.  Academic Registry maintains a list of award winners on behalf of the University.
