Eligibility to graduate
It is essential in many cases to apply to graduate before you receive formal notification of your results. However, if you have made an application but do not subsequently receive an award decision you will not be eligible to graduate.
If you do not receive notification of your award by 18 June 2021, you will not graduate this Summer. Your application will automatically become void and you will be refunded for any monies paid. This also applies to applications to graduate in absentia.
Third year UG students who are registered on a 4 year honours programme and who do not intend to continue into 4th year should expect to graduate in the Winter. You should inform your School in writing if you are not expecting to continue to complete your honours programme. Once you have received notification of your award, you will be entitled to apply and register once the online graduation system opens again in the autumn.
Postgraduate Taught students who will be completing their dissertation in the Summer, are not required to apply to graduate until the online graduation application opens again in the autumn for the Winter ceremonies.
Please make sure you settle any outstanding debts by 10 June 2021.
Appealing against your award
If you submit an appeal following confirmation of your award, you will no longer be eligible to receive that award on the original award date you were notified of, even if you have applied to graduate. This rule also applies if the appeal is concluded before the original award date. Once the appeal has been concluded, you will be put forward to the next available award date.
For further information on how an appeal can impact on your graduation, please contact your School in the first instance.
