Graduations are a highlight of the University experience but, due to the ongoing global pandemic, we regret to announce that we have taken the decision to rearrange our winter graduation ceremonies in Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia until such time in 2021 when it is safe to do so.  We are taking this step to protect the health and wellbeing of you, your family and our University community.

In order to receive your certificate, you will still need to apply to graduate in absentia before 18th October 2020.

The online application system will be open from Tuesday 22nd September and you can access the system here Student Self Service.

If you studied online with the Edinburgh Business School on the following programmes you need to apply via the EBS Global portal:

MBA (general MBA and specialisms)

MSc in Financial Management

MSc in Marketing

MSc in Strategic Planning

MSc in Human Resource Management

PGCert in Research Methods

All students who use the Edinburgh Business School student portal shall be contacted about graduation registration by the school in due course. If you have any enquiries, please contact

The graduation award date on all certificates will be 31st October 2020.  Once your award has been conferred, your certificate will be processed for mailing either by 'UK signed for delivery' or by DHL courier to non-UK addresses.  You should allow 4-6 weeks from your graduation date for receipt of your certificate.

We will keep you updated of our plans and want to make sure you will still be able to celebrate your successes together, to meet up with friends and cross the graduation stage in your academic gown.  As a global University, Heriot-Watt already allows graduates to attend whichever ceremony is most convenient, so you have the freedom to choose whichever location and date best suits you and your guests, and if the special cohort 2021 dates aren’t convenient you will have the opportunity to attend any graduation ceremony in the next two years.

To help employers verify your award you can refer them to the Higher Education Degree Datacheck - HEDD.  This is a fast and secure way for your future employers in any country to verify, with your permission, your degree award online without you having to provide your certificate.

Finally, we would like to share our disappointment at having to take this decision.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our future graduation ceremonies over the next two years.

Virtual Celebrations – Winter 2020

This year, however, we want to make things as special as we possibly can for our graduating students. To help celebrate your success at the beginning of December we’ll have a series of virtual celebrations hosted online.

Save the Date
UK – Friday 4th December, 7pm (UK time)

Dubai – Friday 4th December, 7:30pm (Dubai time)

Malaysia – Friday 4th December, 6pm (Malaysia time)

We’re teaming up with StageClip to provide these virtual celebrations. If you graduated in absentia on 31 October (and you didn't opt out of having your name/award published) you will be sent an email from StageClip soon inviting you to participate and with more details. If you opted out of having your name/award published or your graduation has been delayed, you will not be invited to participate and your name/award will not be included during the online celebration.

Our wish is to create a memorable, uplifting moment for you now so please keep an eye on your inbox and be part of your very own virtual celebration. You can also click here to see an example from this summer.
