**GRADUATION UPDATE - NEW: 15 APRIL 2020**
In order to receive your certificate, you will still need to apply to graduate in absentia. The online application system will be open from Monday 20 April and you can access the system here Student Self-Service. *Please note that the deadline date to complete your application has been extended to 19 June 2020.*
Once your award has been conferred, your certificate will be processed for mailing either by 'UK signed for delivery' or by DHL courier to non-UK addresses. You should allow 4-6 weeks from your graduation date for receipt of your certificate but this may depend on when we are able to return to the Edinburgh Campus to prepare them for delivery.
GRADUATION UPDATE - 2 April 2020
Graduations are a highlight of the University experience but, due to the ongoing global pandemic, we regret to announce that we have taken the decision to rearrange our summer graduation ceremonies in Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia for later in 2020. We are taking this step to protect the health and wellbeing of you, your family and our University community.
We are planning to hold additional ceremonies at the end of this year so, as part of our class of 2020, you will still be able to celebrate your successes together, to meet up with friends and cross the graduation stage in your academic gown. But if that period isn’t convenient you will have the opportunity to attend any graduation ceremony in the next two years.
We will let you know once we have the alternative graduation dates for your subject and programme in each of our campus locations. As a global University, Heriot-Watt already allows graduates to attend whichever ceremony is most convenient, so you have the freedom to choose whichever location and date best suits you and your guests.
In the meantime, your graduation certificate will be delivered to you directly this summer. Please check the graduation website from 15th April for more information on when and how this will happen. You can also refer to the Higher Education Degree Datacheck - HEDD. This is a fast and secure way for your future employers in any country to verify, with your permission, your degree award online without you having to provide your certificate.
Finally, I would like to share my disappointment at having to take this decision. I look forward to seeing you at one of our future graduation ceremonies over the next two years.

Postponement, Cancellation and Rescheduled Graduation Ceremonies
Heriot-Watt University will use its best endeavours to keep to the scheduled dates, times and venues for graduation ceremonies. However, due to circumstances outside the control of the University, ceremonies may be delayed, relocated to another venue or postponed. Please note, the schedule of ceremonies is based upon student attendance. In the unlikely event that a ceremony is over-subscribed, arrangements may be made to change the time of your ceremony.
The University also reserves the right to cancel any graduation ceremony and reception for reasons beyond its control. Circumstances may include, but are not limited to: fire, flood, or any other incident that renders the venue unsafe to use; terrorist act (or threat of terrorist act); natural disaster; pandemic or a period of national mourning.
Where any of these circumstances occur, Heriot-Watt University is not responsible for any inconvenience, losses or costs that may be occasioned by such event.
Additional information for Malaysia Campus Students
The MOE, Malaysia has made it mandatory for all Malaysia campus students who are graduating, to participate in an online survey called the Tracer Study. Your participation and feedback in this survey is vital to the Ministry and also to Heriot-Watt University in improving the standard of Malaysian education system.
