Gender equality

Heriot-Watt University is deeply committed to advancing gender equality. We are actively working to create an inclusive environment where people of all sex and gender identities feel welcome and supported, and can realise their full potential.

We are implementing good practice in support of equitable recruitment, retention and progression of staff and students. We have made demonstrable progress in these respects and are committed to continual improvement into the future.

Our 2021-2025 plans to progress gender equality are embedded in outcome-focused action plans covering our legal requirements and our Athena Swan commitments. These and other actions to promote gender equality can be found in our Gender Equality Plan.

How we support delivery of our Gender Equality Plan is outlined in this position statement  from our Vice-Principal & Provost, Professor Mark Biggs, who is the institutional lead for EDI globally.
