John Wigham

John was one of the first subscribers to the School of Arts. Not only was he a talented weaver and textile designer, he was a part of a national network of Quaker activists who campaigned for education, prison and suffrage reform and the abolition of slavery. Shawls woven by the Wigham family form part of the wonderful shawl collection at the Scottish Borders Campus, representing the largely forgotten Edinburgh weaving industry.
