Sports can be seen as one of the pillars to strengthen the relationship between one another by having healthy competitions. Recently, Heriot-Watt Dubai Sports Club students paid a visit to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia to experience and also get a grasp of how it feels to be in Malaysia and also to dive into Malaysia’s culture especially through sports and various visits.
Throughout the various events, the Dubai students had a tour of the Malaysia campus and thereafter met Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, Provost and Chief Executive Officer of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, as he warmly welcomed the Dubai students that came to Malaysia. During the meet and greet session, Professor Mushtak also invited the students to do the ‘Empower cheer’ together. “Empower is something that we get from the input and output that will be beneficial in the future,” he said.
Over the week, the Dubai students also had their trip to well-known places in Kuala Lumpur, such as Petronas Twin Tower, Jalan Alor, and Batu Caves, including many other attractions to visit while they're here in Malaysia. There were many unique souvenirs they got to explore, such as the Kuala Lumpur Twin Tower miniatures and key chains.
Syed Uzair, the Student President of the Student Council at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, said, “I am excited to get the experience of walking by the bridge on one of the highest skyscrapers in this world.”
A 3rd Year International Business student, Adil shared his thoughts and feedback along the trip. He quoted by saying, “To be honest, when the Go Global programme was introduced, I was looking forward to furthering my studies here at the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia due to the landscape and also the scenic and peaceful environment to study.”
The Dubai Sports Club trip to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is considered a golden memory for the participants as they can get to know Malaysia’s culture and experience many things besides having to play sports between Dubai and Malaysia’s students. This can be seen as an opportunity for us as a globally connected university, building flourishing communities.
