Billie IChemE Achievements 2023

On 30 November 2023, the annual IChemE Global Awards was held at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham, UK. This event aimed to celebrate the excellence of researchers and professionals from the chemical, biochemical and process industries.

This auspicious gathering brought in more than 100 finalists, selected by a panel of 30 judges from various global industries to be honoured across 19 categories.

Dr Billie Hiew, Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS), was recognised for his outstanding contributions under the category of ‘Young Researcher.’

His discipline focused on chemical engineering research, particularly for demonstrating the impact of his work in addressing crucial technical, economic, environmental and social issues within the industry. His research spans various interdisciplinary experimental activities, focusing on nanotechnology, environmental pollution control, and biomass reutilisation.

Dr Hiew has published over 25 Scopus/WoS-indexed peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, accumulating over 1000 citations. His commitment to advancing the field is evident in his research and his strong advocacy for integrating skills from various disciplines to translate new knowledge into practical applications.
