The holy month of Ramadan is a very special time for Muslims worldwide.

Observers break fast each day with an evening meal, a tradition called “berbuka puasa” or “iftar”.

This year, we were blessed to be able to celebrate this special month with some members of the media at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, in appreciation of their hard work, commitment and support of our University. A total of 24 media members from Malaysia's mainstream media were present at the joyous event.

The event was a great reminder to all of the importance of building cooperative relationships based on trust and respect, in line with the spirit of ‘Muhibbah'. It also reminded us of the importance of bonding with others from different faiths with shared moral values as collectively we have the potential to become a strong force for positive change and development in the country.

The iftar session was attended by Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi (Provost and Chief Executive Officer); Ms Janice Yew (Chief Operating Officer & Registrar); Professor Dennis Wong (Deputy Provost); Ms Hiew Kwee Sen (Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Head of Finance); Professor David Ngo Chek Ling (Director of Research & Enterprise), Professor Raymond Madden (Head of Edinburgh Business School); Professor Ir. Dr. Satesh Namasivayam (Head, School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure & Society), Professor Ir. Denny Ng (Head, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences), Associate Professor John See (Programme Director of Computing Science, School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences); Ms Au Shieu Ye (Regional Director, Marketing, Student Recruitment, Admissions & Communications); Mr Jason Chan (Head of Student Recruitment & Admissions); Ms Sharon Oh (Marketing and Campaigns Senior Manager); Ms Diyana Kamar (Public Relations & Communications Manager) and Ms Ehya Nadzeri (Public Relations & Communications Senior Executive).

At the end of the event, Professor Mushtak handed out tokens of appreciation to our media guests.
