What appealed to you most about Heriot-Watt University?

I chose Heriot-Watt University after extensive research that proved to me what an outstanding University it is. For me, as an Indonesian and from a middle-income family, studying in the UK seemed like quite the impossible dream. But when I heard that a new campus was to open in Malaysia, it suddenly made a lot of sense for me to study here. The standards here are exactly the same as in the UK, but with a fee structure that is far more affordable in Ringgit Malaysia. I could not think of a better place to go to.

Do you feel your degree has prepared you well for a career?

I am studying Actuarial Sciences now, and as an Indonesian, I know that there is a high demand for this profession, but not many universities with the right expertise to teach it. The UK is well known for this field, and I believe that studying it there will make a big difference, which is why I am transferring to the Edinburgh campus to complete my degree. This is on top of the fact that Heriot-Watt University partners with the IFoA (Insitute and Faculty of Actuaries) from the UK, giving me that added confidence in the degree that I am obtaining from this university. My ambition is to be a successful Actuary in Indonesia once I graduate.

What tips would you give to an international student thinking of studying at Heriot-Watt?

I heartily recommend fellow Indonesians to study at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia – obtaining a UK degree with Malaysian fees is a wonderful opportunity.
