What appealed to you most about Heriot-Watt University?

After I graduated from my degree, I had been working as a process engineer at a world leading manufacturing company. While working, I realised that it was insufficient to apply only technical knowledge gained during my degree. Knowledge in management and business, I found, played a significant role to deal with the top and bottom levels within the organisation. With a realisation that business plays a big role in the world at large, it triggered me into looking for a postgraduate course in Business instead of Engineering. After much research and asking around, one of the professors I met at work strongly recommended the Business course here at Heriot-Watt. The main decider that sounded most attractive to me was the high teaching standards offered across all campuses.

What tips would you give to a student thinking of studying at Heriot-Watt?

As Heriot-Watt is new in Malaysia, all facilities are brand new and sufficient for all students. Scarcity of resources is not a problem here. Besides, due to the low density of population at this new campus, lecturers are able to look after students well. However, studying in a University is very different from in high school. You have to be more disciplined and self-motivated in gaining knowledge.

What did you enjoy the most about studying your degree?

A combination of helpful staff members, knowledgeable lecturers and a beautiful lake view has contributed to my wonderful memories at Heriot-Watt. Back to student life after working for a few years was a difficult decision. Reading thick books and managing assignments have been stressful. However, I enjoyed the motivation to improve myself.

Do you feel your degree has prepared you well for a career?

Pursuing a distinct course has broadened my future career path as it allows me to have greater options in both the technical as well as business areas. Though the postgraduate programme is only a one-year course, it equips me adequately to step into the competitive business world.

How do you think your degree will impact on your career prospects?

Currently, I am working as a market researcher in a market research company, a completely different job compared to my previous employment. I believe that the pursuit of a post-graduate degree at Heriot-Watt has contributed remarkably in facilitating the job. The knowledge I gained in Marketing and Business has played an extremely crucial role in where I am today.
