Dr Lucy Robertson

Assistant Professor

I am an Assistant Professor with a background in textile design, marketing and entrepreneurship. Based at the School of Textiles and Design in the Scottish Borders, I teach on the Fashion and Textile Design MA and across the undergraduate design disciplines.

My research explores the facilitation of creative workshops for wellbeing, which utilise waste materials to understand how waste can be used as a resource to create and repair products. Through my research I explore how communities can connect through shared learning, making and exhibiting work.

Background

After working as an Enterprise Executive for the University of Edinburgh I returned to DJCAD, University of Dundee to pursue my PhD in Interactive Textiles for Wellbeing.

Alongside my PhD I worked as a HPL delivering talks, tutorials and workshops on Interactive Textiles to students from 1st year to Masters level. In 2020 I moved to Norwich to work as a textile design lecturer at Norwich University of the Arts leading on the 1st year Undergraduate Textile Design course and working as a subject specialist on the Fashion and Textile Design MA.

I moved back to Scotland in 2022 to start as an Assistant Professor in Design at Heriot-Watt University.
