A fantastic central location
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia's campus is based in the modern garden-city of Putrajaya just 25km south of Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur. Putrajaya is a growing, dynamic city and its proximity allows easy access to the extensive cultural, leisure and retail amenities of the buzzing metropolis.
Putrajaya provides a high quality of life in a new, forward-thinking urban centre. It is a great choice of city for students with excellent facilities, modern infrastructure and transport links. As it's based in the Multimedia Corridor, it also benefits from a highly efficient broadband network. It is developing as an attractive centre of learning for both local and international students and a vibrant student population is steadily growing in the city.
A wide range of leisure facilities
Putrajaya has exceptional purpose-built leisure facilities. There are many green spaces around its extensive 1,600 acre lake and a wide range of sports and leisure amenities. There is even a 200 metre-long, freshwater pantai berpasir - sandy beach - five minutes from the campus. Facilities include a highly acclaimed Extreme Sports centre, several Futsal centres, an Equestrian Centre and a number of multi-purpose sports centres. There are water sports of all kinds on the lake and three public swimming pools.
Putrajaya hosts many world-class events throughout the year including the International Fireworks Competition, Youth Festival, International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and the Red Bull Air Race World Championships.
Malaysia - the heart of South-East Asia
Malaysia is situated at the heart of South East Asia. It is almost equidistant from India, to the west, and China to the east, and is comprised of thirteen states and three Federal Territories distributed across the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It boasts the 3rd largest economy in South East Asia and its capital city, Kuala Lumpur, is a fast growing metropolitan region.
Malaysia is a tropical country with a warm climate. Its temperature typically ranges from 21ºC to 35ºC. It has high humidity and frequent rain which often falls in a heavy downpour for an hour or so on most days. About two thirds of Malaysia is covered in forest and it's a very biodiverse country with a stunningly varied landscape from tropical beaches to high mountains.
Malaysia is characterised by a remarkable cultural diversity. Its population comprises a multi-ethnic mix of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians and numerous indigenous tribes making for a very vibrant culture. Visitors find a friendly, welcoming country with an open, tolerant attitude and mix of approaches, attitudes and culture.
