School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS)

The School of Engineering and Physical Sciences is active in a wide range of research areas such as chemical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, renewable energy engineering.

Researchers of EPS Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) are working in various sustainable engineering technologies to achieve net zero. Sustainable engineering is an engineering idea of designing or operating systems such that they use energy and resources sustainably, in other words, at a rate that does not compromise the natural environment, or the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Currently active projects are focused on several clusters:

  • Sustainable Systems Engineering,
  • Sustainable Advanced Materials and Manufacturing,
  • Internet of Things (IoT),
  • Digital and Smart Systems (IDSS),
  • Mechanical and Energy Systems Optimization, and
  • Solar Energy: System, Storage and Integration.

School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS)

The School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) in Malaysia is actively engaged in research addressing challenges, offering solutions and innovative technology within the infrastructure, and built environment sectors. The school research activity is clustered under the Sustainable Infrastructure Research Group (SIG).

SIG main research agenda is Decarbonizing the Built Environment. We inspired to be the leading built environment research center of excellence in Malaysia tackling climate and energy-related challenges. We aim to bring together interdisciplinary expertise in solving challenges and achieving net-zero carbon emission targets for Malaysia's built environment sectors through adopting energy-efficient materials, innovative technologies, and sustainable practices.

SIG main research focus areas include:

  • Critical Infrastructure
  • Human-centred Design and Analytics
  • Construction Project Management and Innovations
