Project title

Optimisation of structural components with novel materials for digital manufacturing.

Project abstract

The research will focus on identifying advanced and novel materials suitable for structural applications through modern additive manufacturing techniques. Key areas of investigation will include the mechanical characterisation, analysis of microstructure evolution, defect formation, and their impacts on the fatigue and fracture behaviour of the manufactured parts under various loading conditions. An important aspect of the project is the use of topology optimization to design structural components that are not only resource-efficient but also meet the demands for sustainability and resilience in infrastructure. The ultimate goal is to develop and validate predictive models that can accurately simulate the properties and performance of these digitally manufactured components.
