Mike is a lay member of Court, Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, Chair of Heriot-Watt Services Limited (Oriam) and Chair of the Finance Improvement Plan Oversight Group.

Mike has worked in financial services since 1994, after having graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a Degree in Economics. He is the Global Chief Operating Officer of a FTSE 100 company is also a non-executive director on the board of another FTSE 100 company.

Mike has served on the boards of multiple financial services companies and has sat on a number of advisory boards for global financial services companies. He has spent almost 30 years in the highly regulated financial services industry. He has a wealth of experience in operations and technology, with a major focus on managing large transformations, including multiple mergers and acquisitions initiatives. He has had a significant focus on the management of risk, both strategic and operational, all of which is relevant to his responsibilities at Heriot-Watt University.

Mike is a retired football referee, having refereed over 65 Scottish Premier League games in a career which spanned ten years at the top level in Scottish football. He is also a keen runner, having received a six-star medal for completing the six Marathon Majors (London, New York, Boston, Chicago, Berlin and Tokyo).
