Professor David Jenkins has been at Heriot-Watt for 18 years as a researcher, lecturer and Professor in Energy and Buildings. He leads the Urban Energy Research Group, conducting multi-disciplinary research into energy and the built environment. He is the UCU nominated appointee to Court and previously served on Senate for six years.

David is a theme leader for Energy Efficiency in Buildings for the Scottish Energy Technology Partnership and has served in a number of advisory roles for the Scottish and UK Governments. He is also a member of expert panels for CIBSE.

In his 18 years in academia at Heriot-Watt, David has become experienced in teaching and research, assisted management in Institute of Sustainable Building Design and carried out roles on the Senate, University Committee for Research and Innovation and other groups. His work has involved projects across the UK, Europe and India, with varied funders. David teaches Architectural Engineering and leads the Urban Energy Research Group. His research covers several areas of energy and buildings but he is particularly interested in the role of building energy modelling within energy policy and how this can serve the carbon reduction targets of the UK as they get increasingly ambitious.

David enjoys an active lifestyle, running, cycling and swimming. He also enjoys music, playing the guitar and piano. His other interests tend to be dominated by his two children, who are six and nine years old.

As well as Court, David is a member of the Staff Committee.
