If you are coming to Heriot-Watt University to study Academic English (Pre-sessional or Foundation English) during summer 2017, accommodation may be available on campus where you will find a friendly, welcoming community.

Living on campus, you'll find it easy to get to know people and very convenient: all our excellent facilities are within easy reach, including Oriam, Scotland's Sports Performance Centre., the Student’s Union, the Chaplaincy, a Muslim Prayer room, as well as cafés, lots of catering outlets and a shop. There is also a Health Service and a dentist. Living on campus also means that you will have no utility bills or travel expenses to worry about and you are only minutes from your lectures.

6 Week Academic English Programme

Course dates:  Monday 9 July – Friday 24 August 2018

Accommodation contract length:  Friday 6 July (14:00) to Saturday 25 August (10:00)

Cost:  £161.00 per week

Facilities:

  • Shared kitchen facilities between 4 or 5 people
  • En suite shower room
  • Meals can be purchased at a range of catering outlets on the campus, if you do not wish to prepare your own
  • Bed linen is not provided, but you can pre-order a bedding pack when you make your application online. (Bedding pack includes pillow, duvet, pillowcase, duvet cover and sheet and costs £35 if accommodation is in the NEW hall)
  • Towels are not provided
  • Broadband internet and utilities are included in the rent price

How to apply

You must have had an offer and firmly accepted the offer before you can apply. You can apply by contacting us on halls@hw.ac.uk You will be forwarded application form for one semester on campus accommodation that you will need to fill in and email back to us. We will keep your request for accommodation to our list and contact you once the third semester allocation will start.

Please apply as soon as you have accepted your offer. We aim to accommodate all applicants but we allocate rooms on a first-come-first-served basis and rooms cannot be guaranteed.

Once you have applied, we aim to email an offer of accommodation to you within 7 days. You should then follow the link on the email to accept the contract online. You are required to pay a £300 reservation fee to secure the room. This payment will be allocated to your accommodation invoice once you have arrived. If you fail to arrive it shall be retained by the University, unless you inform us that you wish to cancel the offer before the start date of you accommodation contract.

Please be aware this application is for your summer accommodation while you study on your Academic English Programme only; to apply for your accommodation from September onwards, you will need to apply again as a Fresher. You cannot do this until you have arrived and registered for your Academic English Programme

Arrival information

When you arrive, please report to the main University reception with a copy of your accommodation contract or booking confirmation. You will then be given your keys and directions to your hall.

The University Reception is open Monday to Friday (08:00 to 20:00) and Saturday and Sunday (09:00 to 17:00). Please let us know if you are arriving outside these times.

Please check the start date and time of your contract before you arrive, as your room will not be available before the date and time stated.

Off-campus accommodation

If you prefer to live in the city centre we have reserved a number of rooms for Pre-Sessional English students (6 week programme) in student accommodation at Haymarket. The building is around 30 minutes by bus from the Edinburgh Campus. All rooms are en-suite (in a shared flat). Costs include all bills and unlimited WiFi. You can also purchase a bedding pack (duvet, pillows, sheets).
