Join a global community

Heriot-Watt University is a global institution. We have an international reputation, five global campuses, and a global community with over 27,000 students and alumni network of over 173,000.

Where is Heriot-Watt?

Our campus is six miles from Edinburgh city centre and buses take just 30 minutes, stopping outside our main entrance. It's easy to get to the city and there is a night bus service, so you have a safe route home if you're out late. Buses are free too – students under 22 can apply to the free bus travel scheme that covers all of Scotland.

Edinburgh is a very well-connected city so you can travel by plane, direct train or coach to most UK cities. Use our travel page to plan your journey.

3 Year honours degree option

Scottish degrees usually last four years, offering broader study, more electives, and opportunities for work experience or study abroad.

A three-year degree reduces costs and lets you graduate and enter the job market at the same time as students elsewhere in the UK. You’ll still enjoy full first-year benefits at Heriot-Watt, including Welcome Week, Freshers’ events, and a Personal Tutor.

Entry to the three-year honours degree depends on meeting requirements; if not, you’ll automatically be considered for first-year or foundation entry.

Study at our Global campuses

We are one of Scotland’s most international universities, with around a third of our students coming from outside the UK. With campuses in Dubai and Malaysia, you have the option to study your degree there for a semester, a year, or longer. This offers you the full benefits of being a Heriot-Watt student, including our high standards of teaching and dedicated student support services. Find out more about Go Global.
