Biography
Chamara is an Assistant Professor in Quantity Surveying at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. Prior to this role, he worked as a lecturer in construction management at Global Banking School, Manchester. He also worked as a visiting lecturer in Architectural Technology at the University of Salford, Manchester. His role encompasses both teaching and research responsibilities, with active involvement in academic delivery, student supervision, and research activities within the built environment discipline.
Chamara completed his PhD in Construction Management at the University of Salford, Manchester. His research primarily centers on homeowner behavior within the realm of housing retrofit. A notable aspect of his work involves proposing a comprehensive digital tool, functioning as a one-stop-shop decision support system for housing retrofit, aiming to assist homeowners in making informed decisions. Chamara has published more than ten journal articles, several book chapters and conference proceedings.
Chamara possesses a diverse academic and professional background spanning various facets of housing retrofit, project management, and banking and finance. Following the completion of his college education in mathematics and science, Chamara embarked on his banking career as a school leaver. In his capacity as a relationship officer, he successfully managed a diverse portfolio encompassing SMEs, with a focus on project finance, digital banking products, and deposit products. Notably, his specialization lay in financing construction projects.
Chamara holds a Master's degree in project management from the University of Bedfordshire and a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying from Birmingham City University. Additionally, he has earned an advanced diploma in banking and finance, HND in Software Engineering, and has made significant progress towards a degree in business administration.
Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Chamara is a talented creative writer. He has showcased his literary prowess by publishing two fiction books in Sri Lanka and a science fiction book in the English language in the UK.
