Profile

Why did you choose to study online with Edinburgh Business School?

I chose the Edinburgh Business School (EBS) MBA because it offered me the combination of academic rigor, global recognition and the flexibility I needed at that time while at work. As someone building a career in Corporate and Investment Banking, I wanted a master's that would challenge my thinking while allowing me to continue gaining practical experience at work. The EBS format enabled me to learn from anywhere, engage with a diverse global community and immediately apply strategic, financial and leadership concepts to real banking situations. EBS's reputation for developing independent thinkers and business leaders made it the ideal choice for my MBA journey.

Why did you choose to complete your chosen programme at this stage of your life and career?

I had reached a point where I wanted to move beyond technical expertise and develop a broader strategic perspective. Having built experience in corporate banking, credit analysis and financial decision-making, it was clear to me that I needed leadership strength, strategy and business management capabilities to prepare for more senior responsibilities. This MBA provided an opportunity to connect practical experience with academic insight, enabling me to better understand how organisations create value, navigate uncertainty, and drive sustainable growth. It was the right time to invest in my personal and professional development while positioning myself for the next stage.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while studying online?

Balancing the demands of a rigorous MBA programme with the responsibilities of a full-time job. Working in a fast-paced environment, attending classes, preparing for exams and maintaining a personal life (I like to have a good time with friends and also to travel) required a high level of discipline, time management and resilience. Doing schoolwork online also demands a great deal of self-motivation, as success depends largely on your ability to stay focused and accountable. Overcoming these challenges became one of the most valuable aspects of the experience.

What kept you going when you faced challenges?

What kept me going was a clear sense of purpose from the beginning and the vision I had for my career and personal growth. Whenever the workload became demanding, the need to broaden my perspective, develop as a leader and create new opportunities for the future kept me going. I could see what I was studying happening at work, and this motivated me as I was able to apply what I was learning directly to real-world challenges, which made the experience both relevant and rewarding.

What does this achievement mean to you now?

This achievement reflects a journey of growth, perseverance, and transformation. Completing the MBA while balancing work and personal life has strengthened my confidence, expanded my perspective and reinforced the value of continuous learning. It is also a foundation for the future. More than anything, it has equipped me with the knowledge, strategic mindset, and leadership capabilities to make a greater impact in my career and contribute meaningfully to the workplace and society.

How has your programme impacted your career and personal life so far?

This MBA has enhanced my ability to think strategically, evaluate complex business challenges, and make more informed decisions. The programme strengthened my understanding of finance, leadership, strategy, and organisational dynamics, allowing me to contribute with greater confidence. As a person, it has improved my discipline, resilience, and ability to manage competing priorities

Overall, how has your experience been with Heriot-Watt?

It has been exceptionally rewarding. Throughout the programme, I was challenged to think critically, approach problems from multiple perspectives, and apply academic concepts to real-world business situations. The flexibility of the learning model enabled me to pursue a world-class education while continuing to advance my professional career.

How have you found the learning materials?

The materials were comprehensive, well-structured, and highly relevant to real-world business challenges. The combination of study texts, videos, case studies and online resources provided multiple ways to engage with the content, what the tutors were teaching, and to accommodate different learning styles. What I particularly appreciated was the practical focus of the material, where I could apply concepts directly to situations I was seeing at work.

What was your favourite course and why?

Developing and Executing Strategy, as it brought together many concepts from across the MBA and challenged me to think beyond the day-to-day operational decisions and consider the broader forces that shape the organisation.
