Why did you choose to study online at Heriot-Watt University?

I chose to study online at Heriot-Watt because the programme offered the flexibility I needed to balance full-time work, family responsibilities, and academic growth. The self-paced structure, absence of mandatory live sessions, and flexible exam timetable enabled me to pursue my MBA without putting my professional or personal commitments on hold.

Overall, how has your experience been with Heriot-Watt?

My experience with Heriot-Watt has been excellent. Although completing the programme in 16 months was challenging, the engaging course content and responsive staff made the journey both manageable and rewarding. Earning the diploma has enabled me to pursue additional professional certifications that will help advance my career which was the ultimate goal of enrolling in the programme.

What was your favourite part of the MBA?

My favourite aspect of the programme was the relationships I developed with classmates from around the world. Early in my studies, I connected with three other students who were progressing at a similar pace, and together we formed a study group that supported one another throughout the programme. The course material sparked deep discussions that allowed us to share both academic insights and professional experiences, which greatly enhanced our understanding of the content. I remain in contact with them even after completing the programme, and these lasting relationships are one of the true highlights of my experience.

How did you found the learning materials?

The self-paced, text-based modules were the ideal format for me to learn and absorb the course material. I learn best through reading, digital or printed material, and the ability to move easily between online sections, search content quickly, and reference the digital textbooks efficiently made the experience highly effective. This format suited self-paced study far better than live or recorded lectures would have. It also made revision and exam preparation straightforward and manageable.

How has the MBA impacted your career and personal life so far?

Completing this programme while working full time and spending time with my family was challenging, but its flexibility made it possible to manage my commitments effectively. I followed a strict weekly schedule: working from 9–5, exercising from 5–6, and studying from 6–9:30 five days a week throughout the 16-month duration. Although maintaining this routine was demanding, it allowed me to progress steadily and successfully complete the degree while fulfilling my professional and personal responsibilities.

What was your favourite course and why?

This is an easy answer: my favourite course was Developing and Executing Strategy (H11SD). The content aligned closely with the work I do in my current profession, making it immediately relevant and engaging. In addition, the course organiser, Colin Turner, was exceptionally responsive and supportive. He replied to every comment within the course and fostered rich, challenging dialogue that greatly enhanced the learning experience. The exam was highly practical and reflected real-world application very well. Overall, this course was outstanding.
