This BSc Finance and Data Analytics programme explores the interface between finance and data analytics, to meet the growing demand for financial practitioners who are well-equipped with both core knowledge of the financial markets as well as skills in data analytics.
Besides learning key financial theories and concepts such as assets valuation, portfolio management and risk management, students will be exposed to contemporary topics such as blockchain technology, big data, machine learning, fintech and cryptocurrencies. In addition, students enrolled in this programme will learn programming languages such as Python to perform data analysis and financial modelling.
The overall aim of this programme is to equip students with both financial and data analytics proficiency and relevant industry skills to succeed in today’s data-driven world.
Your student experience
Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials and project work. Each course broadly requires four to five hours per week of contact time in classes and the equivalent in directed self-study during teaching weeks. Course assessment is generally based on either coursework or an exam at the end of the semester, or a mixture of the two at the end of the semester or academic year.

Entry requirements
We have standard entry requirements for all of our courses that you will have to meet.
Year 1
- Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Foundation in Business or Science: Grade C average
- A-Level: DDD
- STPM: GPA 2.33 Grade C+ in any 2 subjects
- UEC: Maximum 26 points including a B6 in UEC Mathematics and B4 in UEC English (5 subjects not less than B grade)
- IB Diploma: 26 points for 6 subjects
- WACE/SACE: ATAR 65
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma: 65%
- Foundation: CGPA 2.5
- China Senior High School Graduation Certificate: 70%
- India Senior School Certificate/Class XII : 55%
- Indonesia SMA 3: 66%
Additional information
Note: In addition to the entry requirements listed above, applicants must have grade C in Mathematics at SPM/ IGCSE level or equivalent. This requirement can be waived if applicants have obtained at least grade pass in Mathematics at a higher level.
