What have you enjoyed the most about studying at Heriot-Watt?
What I enjoyed the most about studying at Heriot-Watt university goes beyond the academic experience. I had the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds, work with them through group assignments, which helped me grow both personally and professionally throughout my university journey.
With Heriot-Watt’s learning system that encourages self-learning alongside community events, I was able to build confidence, communication skills and discipline. It created an environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves and discover their capabilities beyond the classroom.
What programme did you study and why did you choose it?
I chose to study International Business Management because it provides a broad understanding of different aspects of business such as marketing, human resources, project management while also helping me develop practical skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability, which I believe are important for my future career.
How has your perspective on your field of study changed since you started your course?
When I first started my course, I viewed business mainly from an academic perspective, where success was focused more on theories, assignments, and understanding how organisations operate. However, throughout my studies, I realised that business is also highly centred around people, communication, adaptability, and leadership.
Through group projects, presentations, and extracurricular experiences, I learned that working with different individuals and adapting to different situations are just as important as technical knowledge. This changed my perspective on business and helped me understand the importance of continuous learning and personal growth in a professional environment.
What extra-curricular activities have you gotten involved with?
Throughout my university journey, I continued my involvement in taekwondo, a sport I have been passionate about since the age of nine. During my time at Heriot-Watt University, I had the opportunity to represent the university in a Kyorugi competition, which was an achievement I was truly happy and honoured to experience.
While balancing both academics and sports, I also worked as a taekwondo coach, mentoring students and passing on my knowledge and skills to help prepare them for competitions as well as support their personal development. Through these experiences, I strengthened my leadership, communication, and discipline both inside and outside the classroom. Besides taekwondo, I am also actively involved in running and marathon events. Throughout my university journey, I completed two half marathons and am currently training for a full marathon. These experiences taught me the importance of consistency and resilience, while also helping me develop stronger time management skills in balancing academics, sports and coaching responsibilities.
Besides sports, I was also involved as a student ambassador. This role gave me the opportunity to contribute back to the university community by representing the university during events and engaging with prospective students. This experience further developed my confidence and ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.
