Towards Modelling ESG-Financial Integration in Oil and Gas Mega-Projects Using PLS-SEM
Project abstract
Despite persistent environmental, social, governance, and financial challenges faced by Nigeria's oil and gas mega-projects, few research studies have evaluated these dimensions within an integrated structural model. This paper presents the results of a pilot study using a mixed-methods design underpinned by Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling to investigate the inter-relationships that exist between ESG-F constructs in the oil and gas context of Nigeria. The emerging results from the pilot study indicate that institutional governance consistently reinforces financial outcomes, regulatory governance improves environmental performance while social tensions may worsen, and environmental pressures generally impact financial returns. These findings emphasize the multi-dimensional interrelationship existing between ESG-F constructs and provide the first steps toward developing a context-specific ESG-F framework for oil and gas mega-projects in Nigeria.
