Project title

Low Carbon EOR by Applying nm-WAG Processes

Project abstract

The importance of understanding three-phase displacements in targeting net-zero for carbon storage cannot be overstated. Despite the appearance of a large body of research on this topic, there are still a number of challenges to be met. Two main factors affecting three-phase displacements within porous media are wettability and miscibility. In a purpose of achieving a fully understanding of physics governing three-phase flow in a wettability distribution system, a research scheme from a simple capillary bundle model to the most complex one as an extracted rock network is proposed. A “Phase Separation Line” model introduced by van Dijke and Sorbie (2002) is applied to study three-phase saturation paths and pore occupancy sequences for various phase injections in different wettability structures by immiscible to miscible transition. The results underlined on the physics of three-phase displacements and show qualitative agreement with micro-CT image results reported in literature with minimum parameter adjustment.
