Join Heriot-Watt’s Assistant Professor, Dr David Steinberg, and alumni Ayesha Biswas, to discover how current research is helping to shape the business world of the future.
2-3pm: Why people make mistakes
Join Heriot-Watt’s Assistant Professor, Dr Dan Hale, and alumni Oscar Thompson, to discover why a judgement based on partial information is subject to error.
Meet the Speakers
Dr Yuhang Cheng
Dr Yuhang Chen is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University. He was trained as a Mechanical Engineer before he became interested and completed his PhD, in biomedical engineering.
Izabela Nowakowska
Izabela is a PhD student at Heriot-Watt University. Her research focuses on developing a method to use cameras to measure tissue deformation during robotic surgery. Izabela did her Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University as well.
Dr David Steinberg
Dr David Steinberg is the Associate Professor of Contemporary Management Practices at the EBS, and EBS Director of Graduate Apprenticeship Programmes. David holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and a Masters from City, University of London.
Ayesha Biswas
Ayesha graduated from Heriot-Watt in 2022 with an MA in International Business Management. She now works as a consultant in London, specialising in business & technology - with a curiosity towards sustainability and AI.
Dr Alistair McConnell
Alistair is an Assistant Professor and member of the UK Young Academy. His research focuses on healthcare technologies and soft robotics. He also completed his PhD in Rehabilitation Robotics at Heriot-Watt University.
Dr Alessandro Suglia
Alessandro Suglia is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University and affiliated with the National Robotarium. He was able to create successful robots that can use natural language to interact with humans to solve real-world tasks.
Dr Dan Hale
Dan was appointed Assistant Professor in Psychology at Heriot-Watt University in 2016. He was a Senior Research Associate at UCL Institute of Child Health focusing on a Department of Health-funded portfolio of research to inform adolescent health policy.
Oscar Thompson
Graduating with a Bsc in Psychology from Heriot-Watt in 2022, Oscar enjoyed studying a variety of different psychology topics, with particular interests in research methods, and social, health, and cognitive psychology.
