Electronic Travel Authorisation

The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme applies to those who are staying for up to 6 months in the UK and who do not currently need a visa for this length of stay.  From April 2025, the ETA requirement will include European citizens.

What is an Electronic Travel Authorisation?

If you already require to have a visa to visit the UK, for 6 months or less or for a longer period of time (visa nationals) you do not need to apply for ETA as you will already have permission to enter the UK.

Guidance on applying for an Electronic Travel Authorisation

  • Cost: An ETA costs £10 per person
  • Duration: Once issued, an ETA is linked to your passport and will last for 2 years
  • Entry: An ETA allows you to travel to the UK but does not guarantee entry to the UK. You must still meet the visitor requirements as set out by UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI)
