The Travel Home Bursary of £1,500 will be paid to all new students beginning their studies in September 2022 onwards, identified as an RUK (Rest of UK) student for fee status purposes. This includes direct entrants to Year 2 or 3.

Heriot-Watt University appreciates that moving away from home for the first time can be daunting. This bursary should allow you to return home at several points throughout the academic year.

How to apply

Students do not need to complete a separate application form, as these awards will be made automatically provided that you are a identified as a 'Rest of the UK' or 'RUK' student for fee status purposes and in your first year of study at Heriot-Watt University.

The assessment is based on the details you and your sponsors (usually your parents) provide to the Student Loan Company at the time you apply for your tuition and maintenance loans. You must have an account even if you don't plan to take out a tuition or maintenance loan because we process your payments via the Student Loan Company. Please ensure that your parents have selected to share their information with the University, otherwise we will be unable to process your payments.

How will I be paid?

The bursary will be made in three instalments of £500 in October, February and April.

Further information

Students who withdraw are required to repay any overpaid bursary based on a pro-rata of bursary paid to the point of withdrawal.

This bursary will only be available for your first year (one year only)
