What is Clearing?

Clearing is your opportunity to join us in September 2025. It is a process designed to help you find an undergraduate or foundation course availability for the upcoming academic year with UCAS. You can use Clearing if you didn't receive the results you wanted, or simply changed your mind about your chosen university course.

Important information for Scottish students

We are unable to consider applications from Scottish students for Clearing 2025. However, if you are still interested in joining Heriot-Watt in future years, you can either:

  • Apply through UCAS for September 2026 entry. Applications can be submitted from 2 September 2025 onwards.
  • Consider one of our college pathway routes, which upon successful completion could allow you to enter directly into year two or year three of your chosen degree.

Record of Prior Acceptance

Already have your results and ready to apply but haven’t applied through UCAS?

If you have not submitted an application through UCAS for the current application cycle for September 2025 intake, we may be able to accept you onto your chosen programme through a different route, which UCAS refer to as a ‘Record of Prior Acceptance’ or ‘RPA’ route. Please complete this form if you wish to apply through this route.

Our foundation programme option

Are you worried about not getting the grades to get into university this year? Our foundation programme option is an alternative route to accessing your chosen degree and offers direct entry to second-year study across many of our undergraduate degrees.

Graduate Apprenticeships

Graduate Apprenticeships allow employees to earn a degree while working within an organisation, combining academic study with practical, hands-on experience.

We have 2000 rooms of student accommodation in self-catering halls of residences on campus at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Campus.
