42. Thuja standishii

The Japanese Thuja, native to Southern Japan. It is a medium sized tree reaching about 20-35 metres (65-115 feet) tall. The durable, waterproof, attractively scented wood is highly prized for special building purposes, ceilings and panelling. It is also used for furniture, fanlights and clogs. It is widely planted in Japan. The IUCN status for this species is “near threatened”.
